The well-being and safety of young people are central to everything we do. Our programs provide structured, supportive environments where learners feel respected, included, and valued.

All staff are trained in Safeguarding children, and are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to recognise safeguarding concerns.  Enhanancd DBS chhecks are in place for all  staff members. All members of staff receive regular updates and training in e-safety and reporting concerns. The name of our DSL (Deisgnated Safeguarding Lead) is clearly advertised in our website and Safeguarding policy. 

We have a recording procedure, e.g. "My concern," in the event of concerns or incidents needing referral to/and assessment by our DSL.  

We also have a range of available policies that set out how we protect children and staff e.g. Anti-Bullying, Equality, E-Safety, Child Protection, Safe Recruitment, (all which are regularly reviewed), and work with other agencies and professionals (where necessary), to ensure students' needs are met, and to protect them from harm.  E.g.the local authority's Children's Social Care Service or local police, (where necessary). These policies are available to everyone - staff and the general public on the Academy's website, and can have a copy via the website.

We are guided by our founding philosophy that build and plan our educational provisions and services at Phoenix, that a student's total educational experience instils the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and values, that they will carry with them for life. 

PEDIA’s courses provide learning that is linked to EHCP outcomes, are staff-friendly to deliver, and fully aligned with the OFSTED Education Framework.

We are committed to ensuring that all steps are taken to recruit staff, and volunteers who are safe to work with our students and have their welfare and protection as the highest priority.

Students are also empowered to make contact with external general suppport services such as Childline, Childnet, Digizen, Internet Watch Foundation, Kidsmart, and their local police.  

We recognise that our curriculum also plays a role in helping children to understand and identify the parameters of what is appropriate child and adult behaviour; what is "safe" or "unsafe" and how to see advice and support when they are concerned.  

This is promoted via opportunities in the curriculum that increase self-awareness, self-esteem, social and emotional understanding, assertiveness and decision-making, so that students have a range of contacts and strategies to ensure their own protection and understand the importance of protecting others.  

Overall, they are encouraged to talk to staff; who will listen to their concerns which will be taken seriously and acted upon, as appropriate.
